This is me

I am a French girl currently living in the United Kingdom.
My dad is French.
My mum is Peruvian.
Her mum is Norwegian.
This project is based on my family and its history in both time and space.
My starting point was to ask each member of my family to tell me about all the places they had lived in (for one month at least)
and from that I produced a piece that was exhibited at my degree show in June 2009.
Knitting is a traditional craft strongly linked to family values and it often symbolizes the relationship people have with their elders.
That's why I used this medium to create my family tree.
Each strip represents a family member.
Each row represents a year, each stitch a month.
The different colours represent the places they have lived in and the textures indicate the reasons of their moves.

Usually postcards are sent from one location to another to share the experience of a place.
Here it's about sharing this experience but from one time to another.
On the front is my interpretation of anecdotes people recounted while remembering their journeys.
On the back is their words and a stamp informing on who (portrait) and where (colour) the postcard is from.
